Carrying the Swiss

I can tell you right now that CanadianSwiss and Expat Traveler are really gonna like this one. Pop their buttons all over the place, and rightly so.

Donica bought this SwissGear backpack (by Wenger, maker of the Genuine Swiss Army Knife) for me before our last trip to Hannover. She didn't like how the other pack fit on my back and wanted me to have more padding. I wasn't complaining but when I broke this new one in both coming and going, I realized what a huge difference it made. It was still heavy (because of the laptop) but it was definitely more comfortable. More shock-absorbing!

Product recognition is a bankable asset that plays a key role in business development. The company logo and where it is strategically placed costs mega dollars, we all know. But when you find a company that is willing to put its logo every "whipstitch" it can on a product, you can be darn-tootin' sure it believes in itself! Its quality has stood the test of time.

When Donica carried my pack in Hildesheim a couple weeks ago, she liked it so much she ordered one for herself exactly like it. That's product satisfaction! She'll just have to come up with a different tag to identify it.

I sure bet the Swiss Army Knife people would love THIS story!

  1. hey Ginnie - you are right as it did make me smile. I'm sort of looking for a new backpack if it would fit my laptop inside also...

I may just have to check out where I can get that one. It looks great. And something with the padding that suits my needs too (especially when I walk about 30 mins to the house with my laptop on my back).

I have the arm bag but I think I want the backpack instead.

  2. HI, Expat. I knew you'd like that :) BTW, here's a link to the
    "Synergy"
computer backpack, though Donica originally bought it at Best Buy. It fits most 15"/15.4"W widescreen laptops. I carry mine for as long as 30 minutes or more at any given time. I'm very happy with it (and if you get one, we'll have to give Donica a commission :)

  4. Wow, fancy! And it looks so sturdy and practical at the same time. When the Swiss do something, they do it right! :-)

  5. Your post made me smile, too... my best "Swiss smile", that is ;-)

I've been looking for a nice backpack for my new laptop, but didn't find anything I liked for my 17" sreen. For now, I have a very nice bag, but that's not very good for my back. The weight distribution is better with a backpack.

  6. Tim: Very handy indeed.

Christina: I just love all the fancy details!

Mr. Fab: I bet you didn't carry a laptop around in college, which is what makes the difference, of course. That thing can really be heavy, depending on which one you have.

CS: I just checked and this place also has
    17" laptop backpacks
, though not the same style. In fact, a couple are on sale from $160 to $100. Man, backpacks sure are expensive these days but I guess they do last "forever," if they're made well!

  7. Very nice. Spending extra time researching for comfort is well worthwhile. I'm not looking forward to carrying my 5-lb. laptop to Ireland this summer! But it will be great to have it there. Hope my backpack will be decently comfy.

  8. Ruth--FIVE POUNDS??!! Actually, for all I know, maybe mine is that heavy, which would explain a lot :) No wonder this backpack works so nicely. Wish I were close enough to loan it to you (if we're not in Germany, that is).

ET: Taxes. UGH. I do mine next Friday! My first year (2005) retired. I'll see if that helps me at all :(
