Let There Be Light

First of all, there's a bit of a story behind this. Some Neighborhood bloggers were submitting their photos on a "Lamp" theme and somehow I got into a conversation with Jeff at The Thing of the Moment about it. Let's suffice it to say that he encouraged me to "Just do it." I didn't exactly do it, in that I didn't submit these photos (sorry, Jeff) but I did at least find a lamp and take pictures of it. I figure that's a start in the right direction.

Anyway, this particular lamp also has a bit of a story. I had the good fortune of joining Donica in Amsterdam for two weeks back in June of 1998. While there, we traveled all over the Netherlands. So many wonderful memories of that country--the only time I've been there except for the airport en route to Germany or home.

Besides traveling around, we went to flea markets and antique shops, where I found this lamp. I love it for 3 reasons: 1) the base is of a woman reading--one of my favorite pasttimes; 2) I thimk the glass shade is spectacularly beautiful; and 3) it is from somewhere in Europe--actually, I think it was made in England.

Believe it or not, I hand-carried that lamp all the way home to Atlanta from Amsterdam! It now sits in the entryway of our house as a night-light. Such a nice, warm, cozy feeling for a Lamp Theme.

Speaking of the Neighborhood, I'm off this morning to go see Mr. Fabulous, here in Atlanta from Florida for a blood drive. Bet your bottom dollar that I'll be posting about him next :)

[That was then, this is now! It's now Sunday and Jeff, bless him, talked me into submitting this post to Tuesday Photos for the Lamp Theme. Done :)]

  3. Ha, Chez. No way, Jose.

Jeff: Yup. I'm definitely a Chicken when it comes to some things. But then, there's always Mr. Fab to make up for it!

  6. Ooops, sorry - 'definitely'. (I wish there was a way of editing spelling once posted.)

  7. Tim: Thanks.

DW: Either spelling, I agree that it was worth carrying back. And I know what you mean. For us good spellers, it's a bummer when you can't edit a misspelling. Being a perfectionist is one of my "tragic flaws." UGH. Must be a way for the Fates to keep me humble. Didn't Winnie the Pooh say he was a good speller but just got his letters in the wrong places :)

  9. You may be a misspeller sometimes but I'm a misreader... I read Ginnie the Pooh! ROTFLMAO!
And cool! I'm glad you have posted to a contest. Yeah! for Jeff! And Ya! :o)
PS: VERY nice lamp! Jealous I am! ;o)

  13. No, Expat. You're not losing it. It's that sliver of time that escapes us, which I've experienced as well, and I wonder, where have I been!
