You Have to Start Somewhere!

In the midst of March Madness-Badness-Sadness, how about some T-ball! Today was Nicholas' very first day to start the baseball side of sports (at age 5-1/2). And yes, he's a Yankee! In the fall, he'll go back to soccer.

He was one very serious boy this morning, taking it all in and not missing a beat. Because Donica was in sports almost all her life, she has really encouraged Amy to have Nicholas try the different team sports to see if there's one or two he'll end up gravitating to, if any at all. The least of it right now is that he's learning team-playing and good sportsmanship. The kinds of things that are valuable for Life!

G'ma is prejudiced, of course, but isn't he the cutest thing! We get to pop our buttons as mommas and g'mas--the way it's supposed to be. You just wanna eat them up!

This was a good diversion, midst all the hectic pace of the Sweet Sixteen becoming the Elite Eight this week, soon to be the Final Four in college basketball. Who knows. Maybe someday Nicholas will try basketball and football...or even track or swimming .

It brings a smile to my face to think that these men and/or women we're watching each evening once started out like little Nicholas with parents and g'parents wondering what would become of them! They, too, had to start somewhere!

  2. MP: It was a gorgeous day, very sunny, but still in the 40's. It may have cracked 50 at the warmest part of the day but that WASN'T during T-Ball. It was still a blast. Glad it was nice in Quebec :)

Mr. Fab: Yes, I know! I have very mixed feelings about the Yankee part. BUT, if you're gonna start out as a kid, might as well be a Yankee, right? BTW, they played the Pirates :)

  3. That's fun to see there is no snow anymore and he can play. Here probably he would still have his hockey team sweater ;-)! He really has fun!

  4. He is soo cute in that baseball attire (also from a non Mom/g'ma point of view) ;-) He looks so concentrated in the first picture. Just wanna cuddle 'em!

  6. He is adorable, and obviously taking it all in...that look of concentration in the first picture :)
I too think it is an excellent idea to let children try as many sports as possible and find the those that they enjoy.

  7. Mei: If you look carefully, he had his hooded sweatshirt on (over another T-shirt) as well as his outer team shirt, but you're right--NO SNOW!

Tracie: Yes, even if I say so myself :)

CS: When I saw the photos later was when I realized how tiny they all seemed. Little twerps! Yes, you want to cuddle them all.

Christina: Little uniforms that make them look so grown up!

DW: That concentration actually made me think he might be "getting" baseball even better than soccer. Remains to be seen, of course, but that will be part of the fun in the years to come, seeing what seems to fit his personality and ability.

  8. Well my commment I thought went after CS but I guess it didn't... I loved the last photo when he's running. It's such a great shot because it looks like he's walking when in fact, little nic must be running by look of his feet.

  9. ET: Yes, he's running. What's funny about that is he's maybe the fastest runner on the team. Many of them DO walk or half-run. He RUNS. But as Amy says, he runs around the house all day long! Lots of experience :)

Madretz: I think so :) But thanks.

  11. Ruth: Isn't that the truth. So precious!

Amy: Of course you're welcome. You should be very proud of him. He's adorable!

  13. Yes, Lisa--5-1/2! He's growing up way too fast. I've loved every minute of his life and every age is different. And all of it is so much different than my own kids :) All the fun without the pressure (at least not yet).

To be honest, I thought I had already posted about our January trip to start some renovations in Jaap's bungalow, as a gift from Astri...
