Monet's Garden

Since I'm on a Nicholas kick, here's another "it doesn't get much better than this."

Monday night his Mason Elementary School had a Monet's Garden art show for the K-5 grades. It didn't take long to figure out that each grade had the same theme for its picture but you saw each child's own creativity at work with the "ingredients" provided. Variations on a theme. Hmm. Wonder what Monet would think of that?

But the fun, of course, was the presentation! There were myriad panels set up all over the cafeteria and you actually had to search for your child's piece, or, as we did, ask for the grid location. As they say, Presentation is Everything! And not just for the kids. It really made you feel like you were in an art gallery. Amy was able to buy the framed original (only parents or designated others could do so). Then the rest of us got to buy reproductions :)

Okay. So someone has found a great way to make a buck! All power to them because it worked for all us gluttons, popping our buttons over our own budding Monet's. Talk about Art Appreciation. It really doesn't get better than this!

The Shadow, by Nicholas, (K), 2006

  1. What a great picture of Nicholas holding his picture, Mom! A funny side story about this picture . . . I asked him if he was the one to name his picture "The Shadow". He seemed confused and eventually said, "No." So I asked him if he knew why "they" named it that way. Again, he was confused and wanted to know who "they" were. He then got frustrated and said, "It's MY fish and I can call it whatever I want!" You can't argue with that!

  2. Ruth: I know; I know!

Amy: You already told me this story once but I'm splitting a gasket again over it. So cute.

And, what a great picture it is!
I LOVE Nicholas’ picture better than “Red Fish” of Matisse.
Will he become an artist in the future?
Or, become a professional bowler? ;)

    Sincerely

  5. In response to Expat's comment, yes, a percentage of the sales goes directly to his school's art department! :-)

  11. Christina: I keep saying "You have to start somewhere!" How do we know which one of these things he'll take off on and really excel at?! Let's hope and pray our schools will continue to have art and music programs!!

CS: Yes, indeed. G'mas get to agree :)

TO: Ahh. A Pisces amongst us! Yes, you would like that piece of art.

Lisa: The smile, of course, is definitely the "work of art." I was so glad it turned out so big :)

Mr. Fab: HA. Guess we could all learn something from him :)

KPK: Awww. How sweet. I still laugh about his reaction to Amy's question.

Mei: Me, too! For all the stuff he brings home from school, he's definitely allowed his creativity!

  20. If I see well, he did that masterpiece with paper cuts. Strange they call that a Monet's Garden art show, because that reminds me of Matisse collage. I specially love the bottom fish that is kind of sneeking behind the waterplant!

And he is totally adorable with his missing teeth... :O)

  21. You have good eyes, Clo, because you are correct--paper cutouts glued on. I think the bottom fish must be the Shadow :)

I, too, love his missing tooth--even though from an accident last year. They had to pull it out. But the others will come out soon enough.
