Another Kind of Art

This is a tag-on to my last post and needs to be seen in conjunction with it (so go read it first!). I could have made one long post but decided to separate the different "kinds" (genres) of art. The first one was the Art of Coloring. This one is the Art of Playing Guitar. And both are the Art of Teaching. (Hmm--two posts for the price of one!)

Here's Peter again. Same first-cousin-once-removed (for Nicholas). Same week at the cottage. Peter is playing the guitar like no one else (he's the lead guitarist in Westrin & Mowry).

Now observe Nicholas watching with rapt attention!

Next thing you know, Peter is teaching Nicholas how to play the guitar (which is, BTW, something Peter does as a living). Coloring, playing the guitar. I have a feeling that anything Peter does well is something Nicholas would like to learn.

So once again, what's the greater art! The doing of something well or the teaching of it?! Kinda makes you appreciate those Souls who freely give of themselves and what they know. Thanks, Peter. Thanks for mentoring my g'son!

BTW, my cottage photo ablum is done. It took 5+ hours to publish on dial-up (vs. the usual DSL half hour), but who's complaining :)

  1. This Peter is a neat person and it is obvious that Nicholas holds him in high regard. That says a lot.

  2. That shot of Nicholas watching is sooo adorable. He's really taken in by fascination! I'll check out the album this evening. I have to get ready for work :/

  3. Tim: Yes and Yes on both accounts. Peter comes from good stock--Ruth and Don--whom we all love :)

CS: Yes, Nicholas is totally enamored with/by his Peter!

  4. Peter definitely breaks the saying "those who can't, teach."

I think teaching runs in our family's blood, doesn't it...and also something not everyone is gifted with!

  5. I did not know about guitar lesson until I saw your photos! Hmm, I sense a birthday or Christmas gift somewhere down the road . . .

  6. Mrs. M/Shari: Actually, you're quite right on both counts: the Hart Clan DOES seem to have a knack for teaching. And how true it is that not everyone has that knack/gift. I'm wondering if everyone has a responsibility to somehow pass on what they know?

Ruth: Funny, but I never once thought of that. I wonder if Donica did? (Knowing her, probably!)

  7. Wow! That's a big family you have there! I loved the close up of Nicholas with his swimming goggles!

  8. I listened to Westrin and Mowry at this website. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/westrinmowry (In case anyone else wants to listen) Great sound! Music obviously runs in your family, so perhaps Nicholas should take up an instrument :)

What a lovely place, and a such sense of family and companionable togetherness. Loved the album, thanks for sharing.

  9. CS: Yes, a very big family, especially for a mother who was an only child and a father who was one of 3! Your favorite pic has instigated my new post for today :)

DW: You have totally shocked and impressed me by your research skills (no wonder you work in a library!). Either I'm having an Alzheimer's moment or I've never seen that site. In fact, I just sent it to our Hartville clan.

Our famuily amazes everyone who comes into it from the outside. Kinda overwhelming at first but after awhile, you can't help but love us :) We love to sit around and talk and play...and eat!

  10. The student is everything. If he/she is ready and willing to learn, then the situation becomes that much more stimulating for everyone involved. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary with Nicholas, he just simply soaked everything up like a sponge!

  11. Peter- I agree to a certain point, but the student A) has to be willing to learn and B) so does the teacher. The teacher will have to learn how to communicate his knowledge so that the "apprentice" will catch and understand - relate to - what he's saying.

  12. Peter: Spoken like a humble man but I do give you credit for your part!

    CS: So perfectly said!

Texel Island, NL, 2024: Renovations

To be honest, I thought I had already posted about our January trip to start some renovations in Jaap's bungalow, as a gift from Astri...
