The Holiday Web

Outside apartment window in Hannover on 6/13/06, my birthday.

This is just a reminder, as we head into the hectic pace of the holidays: slow down, be still, live in the moment, breathe in and out deeply (several times a day!).

I once worked in a psychiatric hospital and watched as patients flooded in at this time of the year. Stressed out to the breaking point! I also worked in assisted living and saw loneliness and depression like no other time of the year.

Be alive. Be well. Be thankful. Be present in this one moment that we have (I preach to the choir!). Let's not get sucked into the tyranny of the Holiday Web.

  4. Great reminder. It's too bad that this time of year brings out so much stress in so many people, especially in the U.S. where the Thanksgiving/Christmas rush is on.

    Less is more, I say!

  7. Thanksgiving, I presume? You're always late in US for that holiday. Why not in october like here in Canada? Anyway, have a good holiday, you an everybody!

  8. Yes, Mei. Tomorrow. And then in a month's time, Christmas, followed by New Year's a week later. It all comes so quickly at the end of the year, doesn't it!

Don't know why Canada and the States celebrate at two different times. Do I sense correctly that it's a bigger holiday here in America than in Canada? Not sure why I think that, but I wonder.

  9. Yes, Ginnie, it is a much bigger thing in the US and even in Canada, the anglophones celebrate it much more that the francophones.
Well, I won't get too caught up in the festive "web". Just nice cozy family and friends back home.

Happy thanksgiving to you and your family :-)

  14. I don't know either why it's at different time. But you're right! For sure it is a bigger holiday in US.

To be honest, I thought I had already posted about our January trip to start some renovations in Jaap's bungalow, as a gift from Astri...
