Finally!

We're back in Atlanta! I almost said we're back home, which is totally true. However, when I'm in Amsterdam, I also feel I'm home. Very interesting how quickly that has happened. Hmmm.

Anyway, this is a convoluted story but the ending is that we both came home earlier than our scheduled Friday (yesterday) trip. Donica came home on Wednesday and I followed suit on Thursday.

It so happened that while we were gone, Donica's mom found out that she had blockage in her heart arteries again (after quadruple bypass surgery several years ago). So after being catheterized a couple days earlier, she had a stint inserted this past Tuesday. Donica arrived home on Wednesday within 2 hours of Mom's arrival back home. So Donica was able to be up close and personal, seeing to it that everything was okay. When I saw Mom on Thursday evening, she was up and about, acting just like Mom! We even played several games of Spades with her and Lee!

Now she's in the long haul of trying once again to stop smoking! Prayers to the Universe that this time she'll succeed!

So now that we've gone through the mail, YES, I've started reading the last Harry Potter book that was waiting for me. In between straightening all the messes around the house, I read a chapter here and a chapter there.

Finally! Finally all the secrets will be revealed and this long saga of Harry Potter will reach its climax. It's been quite a journey for those of us who have been hooked! For the rest of you, you don't know what you've missed!

Anyway, have a great weekend, reading or not!

  1. I read the 1st and the 3rd books, but haven't continued... I don't know why. Perhaps the H.P. stories didn't GRAB me quite as I thought they would. But I have to admit, they are very good. I haven't seen any of the H.P. films. I think it's probably cos I don't have any young people in my family any more. Sons are grown up, and no grandchildren yet.

  2. Good to know you're back safely and excellent news about D's mom! I'm crossing my fingers for the NO smoking thing. :-)

I haven't started the new HP book but will soon. Sounds like a great read.

  3. Glad to hear that all went well and that both of you got home safely.

I've never read the HP books, however, I have seen 3 of the movies. I guess I'll have to got through no. 4 before I even think of starting the last one ;)

  4. Ex-S: Well, I am totally hooked on the books AND movies, so I stay on top of them all! For me, they're like a variation on The Lord of the Rings theme! For an author to write kids' books that adults like is really saying something, as far as I'm concerned!

Christina: Thanks for your support for Mom. Thus far she's chewing Nicorette gum and is hanging in there! And yes, I'm well into the HP book. No hurry on it but I'll just enjoy it!

CS: Thanks! HA! If you need to get through #4 (book or movie?), you still need to get through 5 and 6 as well, since this is the 7th and last book. But you'll love the next movies as well! It's getting darker and darker...just like TLOTR!

  5. I too am glad to hear things are well . A guy at work has stopped smoking for over 20 plus days. It is a success when it becomes a habit not to do so. Hope it will work for her!

And yes I know what you mean by both homes. I still feel that way!

  6. Good to know you are home, home - safe and sound. Our vacation in Sweden ends today, so we are heading for home too.

I haven't red the book, but my wife is already finished so it must be good!

Wishing you a great week ahead:-)

  7. I'm glad to hear that Donica's mom is ok. The only way to give up smoking is to stop completely, no cutting down and slowly easing off. That doesn't work... ask me! :) Mind you, I haven't smoked in years.

I have bought the latest Harry Potter, but still have to read HP and the half blood prince. I'd better hurry as spoilers are bound to be out soon, as well as people chatting about it at work etc. I don't want the ending spoiled for me!!

  8. ET: We are really rooting for Mom. Hope she makes it this time! I can't imagine how hard it must be to stop after you've been smoking for so long!

Renny: You'll have to read it and be in the know! :) Have a good time resettling back home!

DW: Thanks for your encouragement re: Mom. We all know she needs to stop, as does she herself. So far so good.

I hope I don't accidentally see any spoilers on this last HP book before I finish it. Donica has only read the first book and already knows the spoiler for this one. But she'll keep her lips sealed! :)

    Good to see you again!!!

  10. I'm hoping for the best for Donica's mom.

This final Harry Potter book is my favorite. I loved every moment of reading it.

  11. I agree with you and DW that I'm afraid of spoilers. In fact many students on this Ireland program have read it, and if I hear them talk about it, I plug my ears. I've gotten to page 250, and now I don't have time to read!

I'm so sorry about Donica's mom! But I'm glad she is doing so well now.

  12. CS: HA! You are way too funny!!!

Dixie: Thanks for your well wishes for Mom. So far so good! I'm now almost 3/4 finished with HP and am loving every page of it!

Ruth: As I told Dixie, I'm 3/4 done with HP and am loving it. So far, no spoilers from anyone! :) And thanks for your thoughts towards Mom. So far so good.

  13. I'm sending my prayers out there too.
I'm stuck on book 5, Order of the Phoenix. I haven't seen the movie yet, but i'm thinking about it before finishing the book. My BIL read the last book in 2 1/2 days while we were at the hideaway. I was reading 5, one SIL was reading 3 and the other re-read the last few chapters in 6 while her husband finished 7 so she could start it.

  14. Mad: Finish the books in order, of course. You're gonna love them!

  15. By now you're probably finished. Was it what you expected/hoped?

  16. Let's just say is was as good, if not better than I had hoped for, Karen! :)
