Reflection

On this 230th Independence Day for our USA, we're back safe-n-sound from our Michigan family reunion. And I'm reflecting.

Looking at Amy's "reflective" business office, 5/18/06.

Approximately 14 hours in the car, both coming and going, is the perfect time for reflection, especially when it's my turn to drive. Going, I was thinking about where I am in my life, my goals and aspirations. Am I doing what I want to be doing? Am I being all that I want to be?

Coming back home, I was reflecting on my family--the conversations, the different family units and what they're each dealing with, the cousins (our kids) and the grandkids (theirs).

For some reason, when I'm in the car and alone with my own thoughts, I find myself whispering somewhere deep within me, "Thank you" and "I love you." To whom am I saying that? To God. To the Universe.

So as I now start working on yet another photo album (!), the annual family reunion, I'm so thankful for the freedoms I have, to do and be who I am. To grow and learn and reflect.

Thank you. I love you.

  1. We have all not known what to do today--all weekend, in light of our family's absence at the cottage this year. Emma phoned this morning and said she was wearing her Hukilau shirt today, Katy called from Guatemala and said she just burst into tears at one point this afternoon, and we took Laura to a movie for something to keep us occupied!

I am so thankful for the family God placed me in, and really missed you all. Glad you're home safe!

  7. Oooo.. serendipitous!
I noticed myself taking shots of reflections in Vienna last week and thought the same thing about reflecting on family and life.

    Love you Ginnie!

  8. I have felt so much love from all your comments. Thank you so much!

Mrs. M/Shari: We definitely talked about the hole at the cottage by your family not being there this year! Even Todd wasn't there, so you can imagine how different it felt. A whole differnet dynamic when family members are missing! So sorry you couldn't come but maybe next year?!

ET: Actually, I tried taking pics of our little fireworks' show and what we saw around the lake but didn't get any good pics. Still, the home-grown experience is always fun each year. We try to outdo each other around the lake each year :)

    CS: Thanks for concurring!

MP: You all are such sweethearts. Welcome back to YOU, MP! I've missed you during your "absence."

Christina: Yup! It's funny how it's always so good to get away and so good to come back home. Thank God, right! Otherwise no one would ever go back home. I've decided the "coming back" time is always my best time of reflecting each year. I should do it more often :)

    DW: Thank you. Thank you!

TO: Reflection is definitely a world-wide thing! I hope you show us your own pics from Vienna. Thanks for your love!

  11. Ruth: The time was way too short, wasn't it! We hardly even started to share, it seems....

    Dixie: Thanks, my friend.
