Bear Necessities

Okay, who got me started on this! (That be you, Ms. Lisa!)

Here's yet another of our collections: all 60+ bears on a 10' window ledge in our basement office. Yup, everywhere we go, we try to find one to add to the memories. And who, pray tell, will get THIS collection when we're dead and buried? Hmmm. Have only a little clue and I'm guessing it's not Nicholas :)

Anyway, here's a "family portrait" of most of the Hard Rock Cafe bears that are really part of a bigger collection, right?! Just for the halibut, here are the 14 cities thus far (not every city has an HRC, of course!): Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Chicago, Honolulu, La Jolla, London, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Orlando, Oslo, Paris, Rome, and Stockholm.

Okay, so now you know who keeps me company when Donica is gone! Sometimes I look at them and say "You're sooo cute!"

(Someone is making way too much money on gluttons like us!)

  1. I know we get comments that we have "way too many collections" from multiple sources...However, everytime one of us looks at a bear, a hat, a spoon, a magnet...or whatever, and a very fond memory of a place and time returns with a smile....it is worth the effort to find places for all these memories to live. At the end of the day, we each have our friends, our family and our memories. Our memories are the only one that is totally within your control....don't loose them!

  2. lol - yeah I guess someone is making way too much money on you for sure! They are cute. I guess I've stopped buying and collecting since all of my stuff is in Cali and well I don't have room for it and I stopped when I started my expat travels and didn't have room for anything more than my bike and bare necessities...

I guess when you have a home, there are many things you do get. I think it's give (up_ and take too... I'm certainly doing that now.

  3. Donica: Our memories. OUR memories. Our MEMORIES. HA. So many emphasises!

ET: It definitely helps to have a house with many nooks and crannies! We certainly couldn't do this in Hannover.

  4. With so many lovely collections in your basement office, I'm amazed that you still have space for your laptops ;-) LOL. Too cute!

  8. Heehee! Now this collection speaks to me! :)
I used to collect all kinds of bears.
Then we moved 3 years ago and all.that.stuff was overwhelming. I still have most of 'em, but try to contain my current collections to magnets and postcards and things that don't take up a lot of space.

  9. Beautiful collection. Great colorful images. I've never had more than two bears in my cildhood and my "best friend" was disposed by my mother when I was older without asking me before. Oh my, I was ANGRY about that .

  10. Tim: Thanks :)

Mad: HA. Yes, of course--you and your bears! Magnets is next on my agenda for a collection post :)

KPK: Awww. You have a right to be angry about that! Mothers should know better about such things. UGH. So sorry she didn't know better.... I'll have to name one of mine "the KPK bear," in sympathy!

  12. Aww. Thanks, Ruth. You're right on both counts, though I'm guessing there WILL be a day when we're too old to maintain this place and will HAVE to move!

  13. Who is this Lisa of which you speak? I know there're a bunch of us out there and I don't want to be assuming. Whoever she is she seems to be silent in these comments at least. I'm jumping in here to let her know she's got some competition. :)

  14. Lisa, that would definitely be YOU, the one and only and none else!
