Expiration Dates

Happy 5-0 Birthday, Ruth!

Okay. Stick with me on this because you know my "little sister," the youngest of our Sib Tribe, is our very special, favorite sister. We wouldn't think of "expiring" her!

BUT, have you ever noticed how we think of milestone birthdays? Ruth turns 50 today but in actuality, she ENDS 50 today. She not only ends 50, she ends a decade--her fifth. Today she starts her 51st year and her 6th decade.

Don't worry. None of this makes Ruth any older than she already is. Nor will she feel older, I'm quite sure. After all, she's the youngest of us all and knows it. Wait till Nelson turns 70 in 5-1/2 more years. She'll really feel old young then :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (again and again), Ruth!

  1. It's comforting to know we only age one day at a time...not years or decades!

    Happy, happy birthday Ruth!!

  4. Thank you! :D

BTW, I hope you finished that yogurt before it expired.

I was feeling quite content about the whole thing, after all, 50 doesn't sound so bad, until Don said this morning, "yesterday I was married to a woman in her 40s, and today I'm married to a woman in her 50s."

    Yikes! :|

  5. OUCH!! That sounds way worse than my intention! Ruth is the epitome of beauty and elegance.

Ginnie, I love your picture and post. How did you notice that date?

  6. Mrs. M/Shari: HA. You're right--one day at a time and before you know it, you're 40, or 50 or 60 :)

Mei: Happy birthday to YOU, too (last week, I see). Yes, it's quite the club.

Amy: It's fun to watch even YOUR generation love Ruth (and Don)!

Ruth: I took that pic on July 24th, so yes, I finished it in plenty of time. Aren't you proud of me for noticing the expiration date and actually remembering it was your birthday?! And THEN taking a pic, assuming I'd use it today :)

In regards to what Don said, I hope you had a good come-back since he turned 50 a year before you!

Don: We all can take a good joke and that was a good one! I loved it and so did she, truth be known. (Think of all the husbands who forget their wife's birthday!) Anyway, how that date caught my eye on 7/24, only God knows. Those serendipitous things DO happen, you know :)

  7. You're right, I got a good laugh inside about what Don said! :)

The thing is, he IS older than I am, and I know it doesn't bother him one bit to be married to a woman in her 50s.

    Happr Birthday, Ruth! :)

  9. Ruth: Why does it bother most women than men anyway (we know the answer!)! Not you of course :)

Jeff: HAHAHA! Yes, I have a sister (only one, as far as you're concerned, I know :)
